About saying “Buck it!”

“Happy birthday yeaayyyy!!!” My friend just turned thirty! The big Three-OH! She smiles but it doesn’t reach her eyes. “Don’t you hate that your life is so much different than you thought it would be?” she asks. I shrug and quote Obama’s two famous words when he was asked if he had a bucket list. He replied with his ‘serious funny’ face and said: “I have something that rhymes with bucket….!” Granted he was talking about different stuff, but hey! Sometimes in life, you just need to be able to follow some good advice when it hits you in the face. So here I am, saying ‘Buck it, Buck it all!’…or well some things….

Honestly, it makes life so much easier to not take things too seriously from time to time. Sure you need your goals and everyone needs a feeling of satisfaction. I’ll be the last person to say I don’t! But how liberating is that moment when you honestly don’t give a fuck…! Not about everything, but about that nagging little voice that talks to you about where you should be in life, or thought you would be at the age of thirty. Yeah okay! Well thirty-five…but who’s counting?!

There are days when I can totally cope with not having accomplished those things that I thought I wanted when I was younger, and then there are those that I am less cheerful and aloof about not being where I pictured myself at this point in time. The funny thing is people change and so do our wants and needs. We grow up thinking that we should have the house, the family, the great job and the whole shebang by a certain age and live happily ever after. It’s the rule of society. Turns out I don’t abide by these rules and I’m totally fine with that! What I don’t like, is the negative invisible labels that get placed on people’s foreheads when they’re different…

Honest answer to myself? “You probably, totally do have some form of ADD!”.

The other day, a friend gave me this book about ADD ‘cause she thought I might find it ‘an interesting read…..’ And I did! I tried to go patiently through the first chapters, but I couldn’t contain my curiosity and looked up “Check list; Do I have ADD?”. I went through about three quarters of the list and decided, I probably don’t have ADD!

In this particular book you answer questions such as:  Do you continuously think about things and connect them to other things? Do you jump from one topic in your head and skip to ten others within seconds? Uhm yeah! But seriously, isn’t that just called being a woman!??!’ Mark Gungor would totally agree with me, just saying…!

When you can answer most questions with a “Yes” or a lot of them, it says you might really wanna go see a doctor, but it still doesn’t give you the diagnosis of ADD. There are so many questions I can answer “Yes” to and I’m so glad that I can! I take pride in those things!! Yes, I am a very, very, véry slow reader. But I love drifting away into the wonderful world that the writer has created for me. And I enjoy dissecting every single word, and thereby encountering clues about the killer in the book that other people might have missed. It might even make me a great writer one day!

Am I bored quickly and do I go looking for excitement? Yes!! Do I prefer to continuously learn new things over implementing routines? Totally! So if that would label me as a person with a partial ‘disorder’ then I’m glad I have that disorder in my life. It makes things a lot more fun and a lot less boring : )

So buck it to negative labels and buck it to not having accomplished all my goals! But I’ll never say buck it to living life to the fullest and enjoying as much of it as I can.

OVER MIJ
